After Sunday’s Tyne-Wear Premier League derby between Newcastle and Sunderland at St. James’ Park, hundreds of fans clashed outside the stadium. Three police officers were injured, and 29 people have been arrested so far, a number expected to increase as police review video and identify offenders.
In the scrum of activity, one particularly boorish Newcastle fan assaulted a police horse before being apprehended by police. The horse, named “Bud,” was relatively unharmed and has made a full recovery.
The man who punched the horse, meanwhile, was arrested and released on bail.
