Handball tourney marks 23rd year of friendly competition between students – Orange County Register
The 23rd annual Orange County High Schools Knox-Barrera Classic Handball Tournament is slated for Friday, June 2.
Hosting duties for the singles and doubles tournament rotates among participating schools. This year, the public is invited to catch the fast-paced action at noon on the El Modena High School courts.
Johnny Johnson is the impetus behind the handball tournament. Retired after more than three decades of teaching and coaching, Johnson coordinates the tournament, mentors players and advocates for the sport. He has started clubs, helping numerous students get involved with the game and learn sportsmanship, teamwork and diplomacy, while getting a tough workout and honing skills.
