Ducks weigh options in expansion draft as they get set to lose a player to the Vegas Golden Knights – Orange County Register

Two certainties are in store for the Ducks when it comes to next week’s NHL expansion draft.

One, they’ll lose one player off their roster. It is guaranteed. There is no way around it. It became the case when the NHL made Las Vegas a major league sports city by bringing in the Vegas Golden Knights as its 31st team.

Two, the Ducks will lose only one player. Not two or three or any more. So the Golden Knights can’t take forward Jakob Silfverberg and defenseman Josh Manson from them. And there’s a strong chance they won’t take either, leaving two of team’s top players in the clear.

NHL teams are doing whatever they can to keep Vegas from claiming players they want to keep. But they can only protect a certain number through two options: seven forwards, three defensemen and one goalie, or eight skaters regardless of position and one netminder.
